I am off on an exciting trip tomorrow so obviously packing is essential! I don’t want to reveal the destination just yet, but it is super sunny and near the sea! In this blog post I will lay out my steps to a great suitcase, and how to ensure you bring the right things!
- Check the weather!
It is super important that you know the weather before you go! If the evenings may be a little chilly, make sure you have a cover up or cardigan that goes with all outfits (I always find a neutral tone or a black works best) just in case. Obviously for a sunny holiday, we all hope for wall to wall sunshine! However, that is not always the case, so always double check and pack accordingly.
2. Get all your summery clothes out, and try them on!
I find it is much better to try clothes on and plan outfits before packing so that you have an idea of what looks good before you arrive. I like to plan specific outfits for each day, including a nice daytime outfit, bikini and coverup, and an evening outfit. Once you arrive, you can obviously change around the outfits, but it is always nice to know you have a rough idea – no one likes the panic of ‘I have nothing to wear!’, especially not on a relaxing holiday!
3. Invest in some packing cubes, or just use plastic food bags to organise your case!
I use some zip-up packing cubes to fully organise my case so that everything is neat and easy to find (it is just as easy to use zip-up plastic food bags if you wish). I always put all my underwear in one, workout gear in another, daytime outfits, evening outfits and bikinis all separate so it is easy to grab what I need.
4. Shoes!
My family will without fail ask me before every holiday how many pairs of shoes I am taking as a joke because when I was younger I could easily take 7 or 8 pairs! However, I now see there is literally no point in this as I would end up only wearing the comfy, nicest ones anyway. I think the key is to wear a pair of comfy trainers to travel in which I then wear in the gym or for any walks, then take a nice flat sandal, a pair of flip-flops that you can wear on the beach and get wet, and then an evening shoe (I usually go for a wedge in a colour that goes with all my evening outfits).
5. Beauty Products
Don’t take too much! Simple day make-up with a waterproof mascara and some added eyeliner for an evening look is really all you need. Especially on a hot holiday, make-up can often sweat off and heavy foundation never looks great. Invest in a high quality suncream specifically for the face as not only do they have great sun protection, they also provide a nice dewy glow meaning you don’t need make-up!
6. Hand luggage
Make sure you have all the essentials for the plane. Mine always are; airpods, phone charger, tissues, chewing gum, paracetamol, passport, boarding pass, travel insurance, any necessary covid related information, sunglasses, book, ipad and phone of course! Take a big enough bag on the plane that you can fit a jumper in if you get too hot on the plane, or when you arrive in the sun.
7. Close up your case and have a great holiday!
